The article examines the functions of public finances in peacetime and wartime. The study found that during martial law, financial policy changed, since it is important to ensure reliable and stable functioning of the financial system, maximum satisfaction of the needs of the defense sector, uninterrupted functioning of critical infrastructure facilities, and the efficiency of the functioning of the public finance system. The positive role of public finances in guaranteeing the vital activity of state institutions is noted, and their role in wartime has only increased. The parallel mechanism launched by the government for the restoration of the Ukrainian economy, the revival of business activity, the reconstruction of destroyed infrastructure, housing, etc. is analyzed.
