Anniversary Landmark Architecture

On December 18, the Mykolaiv City Palace of Culture and Solemn Events gladly opened its doors for unusual visitors - regular, loyal users of the regional universal scientific library. The excursion was dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the first public library building in the city, an architectural monument at the corner of Lyagina and Spasska streets, where the Palace of Celebrations is located today.

The tour was conducted by Anna Trokai - Head of the Department of Documents and Scientific Intelligence of Mykolaiv Regional Universal Scientific Library. She spoke about the preconditions for the institution, the patron of Alexander Nuzhnov, architect Eugene Stukenberg, public figure Leonid Dobrovolsky, and other figures related to the history of libraries.

Guests plunged into the atmosphere of the past, peeked into rooms where there used to be a reading room where books were stored. They found out where the librarian Olga Pukhalska lived, who managed the institution for more than 30 years, served the readers and made a significant contribution to the development of the library business in the region. The guests were greeted by the director of the Palace of Culture and Solemn Events, Lyudmila Bondar, told about the present architectural monument.

An honorary, long-time library reader Valery Falov read his own poetry dedicated to the library. And the inspiration team of the City Territorial Social Services Center presented a wonderful song to all present.
