Kateryna Serebrianska Katerina Serebrianska is a Ukrainian former individual rhythmic gymnast. She is the 1996 Olympics gold medalist, the 1995 World All-around champion, the 1996 European All-around champion, and three times Grand Prix Final All-around champion. Katerina Serebrianska was born on October 25, 1977 in Simferopol. She started gymnastics in 1982 at the age of 4. Her mother was her coach. She later moved to the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, to train at the Deriugina School. She won several individual apparatus titles: rope in the 1993 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship in Alicante, Spain; hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon in the 1994 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship in Paris, France; ball in the 1995 World Championship in Vienna, Austria. She also won the 1996 Europian all-around title. In the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, she dazzled the audience with her technically brilliant routines, and although she had a slight fumble with the ribbon before her final toss, her technical brilliance and clean execution assured her of the gold medal. Serebrianska retired from rhythmic gymnastics in 1998. She is Honored Master of Sports [2, c.96].
