To reveal the competence-based approach implemented in the program (general and special competences). 4. To characterize the course content (thematic modules, grammatical material, types of speech activity). 5. To describe assessment methods and criteria. Research Methods . The present study employs an array of research methods, including analysis of regulatory documents [1; 2; 3] and educational literature [5; 6; 7; 8; 9; 10], structural and functional analysis of the curriculum [4], systematisation and synthesis of teaching experience, and content analysis of course modules. Original Contribution. This study is the first to comprehensively analyse an integrated program in Ukrainian and a foreign language for professional purposes for training healthcare PhD students in a higher medical education institution [4]. It reveals the specific features of a bilingual approach to developing communicative competence in healthcare doctoral candidates. Results and Discussion. 1. Policy and Methodological Framework of the Programme. The curriculum of the course ―Oral and Written Communication in Ukrainian and a Foreign Language for Professional Purposes‖ was developed by the Department of Language Training and Humanitarian Disciplines of Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine for PhD students specialising in: E1 ―Biology and Biochemistry‖, I1 ―Dentistry‖, I2 ―Medicine‖, I3 ―Pediatrics‖, I6 ―Medical Diagnostics and Treatment Technologies‖, I8 ―Pharmacy‖. The programme is based on the provisions of the Law of Ukraine ―On Supporting the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language‖ [2] and on the national policy framework for English in higher education. 2.
