121 The total workload for the discipline is 180 hours / 6 ECTS credits, with 120 hours (4 credits) allocated to the foreign language and 60 hours (2 credits) to the Ukrainian language. The course is offered full-time (day and evening) and part-time. Contact hours consist predominantly of practical classes, with lectures accounting for only a small share of the workload, indicating that the course is practice-oriented. 3. Course Aims and Objectives. The course is designed to develop professional communicative competence in foreign and Ukrainian languages among healthcare doctoral candidates. The main objectives include interpreting general scientific literature in two languages, demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English and Ukrainian, and developing intercultural communicative skills. The programme further aims to consolidate students’ theoretical knowledge and refine their practical skills for effective language use in professional settings. 4. Competence Matrix. The programme features a detailed competence framework that outlines nine specific (professional) communicative competences. Each competence is defined according to knowledge, skills, communication (including interpersonal and subject– object interaction), and levels of autonomy and responsibility. For instance, Competence 1 involves knowledge of basic vocabulary and semantic structures, word formation rules, and terms of Greek and Latin origin, as well as the ability to differentiate and analyse these terms and to engage in discourse on situationally determined topics. 5. Course Content. The course is structured into thematic modules (Units), each comprising several practical classes (Lessons) and corresponding grammatical topics. For the foreign language (e.g., English), the course includes five modules aligned with the content of English-language textbooks for medical professionals [5; 6; 7]: Unit 1. Making the diagnosis (history taking, physical examination, preliminary diagnosis, dietary advice) – grammar: Present tenses (Simple, Continuous, Perfect, Perfect Continuous), stative verbs.
