The carotid Doppler sonography is considered to be an important tool in extracranial carotid haemodynamics assessement, in ischaemic stroke patients in particular [1-3]. Purpose. The aim of this research was to study the correaltions of extracranial carotid Doppler sonography asymmetry and ischemic stroke severity indices by National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and modified Rankin scale (mRS) in ischemic stroke in carotid basin. Materials and methods . The patients with ischemic stroke in carotid basin diagnosed with neurologic examination and magnetic-resonance tomography in acute period were examined, 64 males (57,7±6,18%), mean age 55.81± 6.35 years old and 47 females (42,3±7,21%), mean age 55.36 ±8.61 years old. The exmination was carried out with linear and microconvex probes with frequency ranges 3.0–13.0 MHz and 3.0-11.2 MHz respectively, carotid arteries (common carotid arerty (CCA), internal carotid artery (ICA), external carotid artery (ECA)) resistivity indices (RI), stenosis degree, end-diastolic velocities (Vd), time-averaged maximum velocity (TAMAX) and common carotid artery intima-media complex thickness (IMCT) were measured. The asymmetry indices (Ai) were computed with the formula by E. M. Zanette [3]:
