Systematic monitoring of the level of surface water pollution is carried out at permanent and temporary observation points, which are located in places of presence or absence of the influence of economic activity. In this case, the following must be organized: – a stationary network of observation points for the natural composition and pollution of surface waters; – a specialized network of observation points for polluted water objects for solving scientific and research tasks; - a temporary expeditionary network of observation points at objects not covered by the first two types of observations. When organizing an observation network, the following requirements are mandatory: - priority should be given to the study of anthropogenic impacts on surface waters; - systematic and comprehensive observations of water quality by physical, chemical and biological indicators with parallel conduct of relevant hydrological measurements; - coordination of observation terms with characteristic hydrological situations; - determination of water quality indicators by uniform methods throughout the network to ensure the possibility of comparing results; - promptness of obtaining information on water quality and the state of water bodies. In emergency situations, information is collected in a short time, often with limited access to territories, mobile laboratories are used, and personnel work in conditions of increased risk. System control helps to assess the damage and plan the restoration of the affected areas.
