Abstract. Much debate has been and continues to be held regarding the classification of chronic pelvic pain. A review of the European Association of Urologists (EAU) guidelines on chronic pelvic pain (2026) highlights current views on classification. These guidelines play an important role in consolidating and improving the care of patients with pelvic pain and associated lower abdominal pain. It has become clear from both the literature and everyday practice that lower abdominal and pelvic pain is still a work in progress. Keywords: chronic pain, pelvic pain, classification of chronic pelvic pain. The ICD-11 classification for the first time included chronic pain (―chronic pain is pain that persists or recurs for longer than three months‖) and divided the coding into chronic primary pain (―chronic primary pain is multifactorial: biological, psychological and social factors contribute to the pain syndrome‖) and a number of chronic secondary pain conditions (related to cancer, post-surgical, musculoskeletal, visceral, neuropathic, headache/orofacial, other) [1].
