The article explores the systemic impact of depopulation and catastrophic demographic losses in Central Ukraine during the late Stalinist period (1943–1953) on the transformation of its regional cultural landscape. Drawing on archival materials, recent historiography, and latest dissertation research, the study examines how wartime mobilization, the post-war famine of 1946–1947, and Soviet political repressions disrupted the continuity of Ukrainian culture. The paper focuses on two main dimensions: the physical destruction of the intellectual elite in urban centers and the eradication of traditional folklore and craftsmanship in rural areas. Furthermore, the article analyzes the post-war Soviet policies of ideologization (―Zhdanovshchyna‖) and urban Russification as tools used to reshape the devastated socio-cultural space into a unified, Sovietized structure. Keywords: demographic losses, Central Ukraine, post-war period, cultural trauma, Sovietization, Zhdanovshchyna, traditional culture.
