The article systematizes modern scientific concepts of the human microbiome as a complex integrated ecosystem that functions in close interaction with the human macroorganism. It summarizes data from recent studies regarding the composition of the intestinal microflora, as well as its metabolic, immune, barrier, and regulatory roles. The main factors influencing the formation and dynamics of the microbiome throughout life are outlined. The mechanisms of dysbiosis development and its connection with metabolic, autoimmune, inflammatory, and neuropsychiatric disorders are analyzed. Modern approaches to maintaining and restoring microbial balance are considered. The resulting generalizations confirm the significance of the microbiome in ensuring human health and the prospects for further research in this field. Початок XXI століття ознаменувався суттєвим прогресом у дослідженні мікробних спільнот організму людини. Поняття «мікробіом» охоплює сукупність мікроорганізмів та їхнього генетичного матеріалу, що заселяють шкіру, слизові оболонки, дихальні шляхи, сечостатеву систему та шлунково-кишковий тракт. Найбільша увага приділяється саме кишковому мікробіому, який розглядається як функціонально активний компонент метаболічної системи організму [1–3]. Результати сучасних досліджень демонструють, що мікробіом бере участь у забезпеченні енергетичного балансу, синтезі вітамінів, регуляції імунної відповіді та підтриманні бар‘єрної функції слизових оболонок [1, 2].
