They can analyse tasks in detail and listen to recorded material more than once, which aids understanding and helps them prepare a more appropriate response. Thus, asynchronous digital tools not only develop language skills in vocabulary and grammar but can also serve as aids in gaining communication competence and confidence in professionally oriented speaking situations. Synchronous digital tools in ESP classes are extremely important for both offline and online lessons. In the classroom, they add opportunities for real-life communication, decision-making, and teamwork required by the maritime industry. Miro, Mentimeter, and Canva are examples of tools that can be productively used in an ESP classroom to increase interaction, collaboration, presentation skills, and students‘ engagement. During Maritime English lessons, Miro can be used as a collaborative board on the classroom screen or individually on students‘ devices. In pairs and/or groups, students can be offered different tasks, for instance, brainstorming alternative actions, completing route planning, creating a mind map, and analyzing maritime accident reports. Such activities encourage teamwork, decision-making, and problem-solving environment. Mentimeter can also support critical thinking and communication in an offline classroom. Students may be involved in quizzes, polls, ranking tasks, voting for the best solution in the situations, and submitting associations to the word clouds. The results are instantly visible on the classroom screen and lead to further pair and/or group work for discussions, debates, etc. Canva is usually associated with graphic design and visual content, but the platform can still be used in an offline ESP classroom.
